I became aware of this closure by trying to contact them about an invoice 30 past the 60 BUSINESS DAYS they typically pay for their signings, and the number is disconnected and I hadn’t seen a signing request from them in over a month, which was unusual.
They currently owe me $700 for 4 signings and I’m not confident I’ll recover that money, not worth a lawyer unless they just send a strongly-worded letter that’ll likely get tossed, would like to know if the owner is under some type of investigation? Maybe it was a pyramid-scheme? ■■■■■ to be on the receiving end, but such is the way of the modern world. Likely going to write off the loss and hope they get theirs IF they don’t end up paying all of us that are owed.
Well since they closed doors, they think they can get out of it. I have news for them. I am on a rampage now, I am filing in small claims and it is going to cost them a lot more than just the fees they owed.
A small claims action will likely be for breach of contract which can be difficult to prove and opens the claimant up to counter-claims by the defendant. I’m not sure any notary wants to defend themselves in open court regarding their expertise, sufficiency, skills, etc. when the defendant suggests that the notary was deficient in the performance of the job they were tasked with by the defendant. It can get pretty sticky.
As my ol’ sweet daddy used to say, “Know the Road.”
