Help With Getting Started

Hello All, I am interested in becoming a Notary Signing Agent in my state of Maryland. Can anyone give me information on how to get started? I am already a commissioned notary, but would like to become an agent for signing load documents. Please advise on what steps I need to take, and certifications that are necessary. Thanks so much in advance.

You need your title producers’ license to do loan signings - check with your state’s licensing agency about how to go about getting it - or google “Maryland Title Producer’s License”.

Good Luck

GM LindaH, thank you so much for the quick response. Much appreciated.

You’re welcome - to add to this - search it here also - there was a thread by another Maryland notary and there was some info posted there about it. I believe the TIPIC requires increased bond and E&O also…not positive about that though so research carefully

Again…good luck

Thanks LindaH… one other questions. In my research, it seemed that in Maryland, the TIPIC was necessary if you were signing for “closing”, but not necessarily for refinances, etc.? Do you have any thoughts on that? Looks like I can do other signings without the TIPIC…

The signing of any set of mortgage loan documents can be called a “closing”; it’s not restricted to purchases. I would check with the regulatory agency in your state.
