Post dating docs

Yesterday I did a refinance signing for a gentleman who was working away from home. It was a split signing to be signed by his wife five days from now in their home state. The docs were all preprinted with the future date for when his wife would sign. He stated that his wife told him to date all the docs with the future date. I told him that I couldn’t notarize anything that was dated in the future. He didn’t have a problem with that and changed the date for all of his signatures to the current date.
I think I did the right thing, didn’t I?

Yes, IMO you did. The signer can put any date in they want, but your notary cert must reflect the date he’s standing in front of you…
