Scammers wanting to "verify my information"

I’ve been getting calls regularly from people wanting to “verify” my information. I always ask who they represent and a number I can call back to verify their information before providing my own. (At that point they usually hang up.) Today I got a call from “Susie” at “1-2-3” wanting to verify info. When I said I do not verify over the phone, she then said she already had my info from Notary Cafe. At that point I laughed and hung up.

I got a call from 123websites today and they offered me a free website free for life. Then sent me to another individual who was going to send me info to complete the website. Then he said it’s only $9.95 for the first 30 days. Then he went on to tell me that after 30 days the rate would go up, not like $100 but wouldn’t tell me amount. I figured it was a scam and wanted to see it through. They are just trying to sell you a website.

Hi Everyone,

We started hearing reports of these phone calls yesterday. Let me assure that Notary Cafe is IN NO WAY affiliated with 123Websites. Unfortunately, it appears that they may be insinuating that we have given them access to our user’s information. This is not true - they are simply viewing the public profile pages.

We caution all users to contact the company in question WHENEVER there is a question regarding the authenticity of any phone/email contact.

We are always looking to combat this type of behavior and urge you to do the same. Mark confirmed scam email as Spam and do not divulge your personal information over the phone unless you have verified that the call is legit. This goes not only for Notary Cafe, but for any inquiry you receive.

Please do not hesitate to report suspicious activity to us at support@notarycafe.com.

Thanks,

I just received a call from someone representing themselves as “Notary Cafe” asking to verify my Notary Cafe Listing. and talking vaguely about a website. I repeatedly asked for clarification, they put me off each time. They were calling from a “boiler room” I could hear all the background chatter. I just hung up on them. I have been listed with Notary Cafe for twenty years or so. I have never had this type of call. I expect that it is a scam to sell me a website I neither need nor want.
When the “supervisor” would not clarify the nature of the call, I just hung up.
