The Best Notary is the only company I’ve had issues with concerning payment

Since my first post on Notary Cafe Forum a couple of months ago , my signing business has grown tremendously in Los Angeles . The only company that has not paid me at all is The Best Notary . I’ve just recently read bad reviews about this company stating that they don’t pay their contracted notaries on time and I just sent my first letter to them requesting payment .

So far I’ve worked with these following companies and have not experienced any issues with payment:

Sign Docs Today

Accredited Notary Services

Ink and Stamp

Jot

Prestige Notaries

Shasta Signings

Snap Signatures

JT Signings

Notary Pin

Alamo Title

Notary Connect

Evercloud Signings

Cykix

Tennesse Title

& yes , I’ve signed up for SnapDocs, Notary Dash, & SigningOrder & I continue to add more signing companies & databases daily .

Thank you to each and everyone of you who provided advice when I first started

@Kbeck – The Best Notary does have a social media presence. Look at the bottom of home page of their website: Home - The Best Notary

Note: I couldn’t get the Google button to open but Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn did open. Hope this helps you leave reviews.

Notary Connect I believe is the same as Notary Dash.

Hi Mona,

My apologies it took a while to pay you. Working with estate planning attorneys has been tough on our operations as their buying cycle can take years but we do our best to communicate with our notaries during lean times. It would help us if you could update that we did settle our balance with you.

Eli

Again my apologies it took a while to settle the balance with you Katie but I’m glad we got it taken care of and are rebuilding our relationship. We appreciate your patience and support.

Why would I lie and say yall paid me when yall still haven’t paid me…

@thebestnotary I’m wondering the same?

I just found your comment after seeing a job from Best Notary in Signing Order. Their instructions say to download a driving app, which puzzles me – called Onfleet or something like that.. Isn’t that for drivers? Why would a notary download that app?

Probably because they can access your GPS if you’re on that app and know exactly where you are when you are driving.

The app was used to keep track of my departure to the appointment & my arrival to the appointment and then the time I finished the appointment. I never had to do this with any other notary companybut this was there requirements. Then, later on, they went into the app & erased all my info from the onfleet app so it no longer shows I even worked with The Best Notary.. They are some crooks

When signing services (NOT well known title companies) dangle orders with unusual demands attached to them, I have found it best to avoid accepting those unwanted terms and conditions for the sake of the fee and hopes of additional work down the line. I got burned a couple of times and learned a lesson. If you are wary of the “requirements” (that serve only them, not you) best to move on. They don’t need what they’re asking for, otherwise every SS would be asking for it. They just want more control and a way to delay/not make payment.

I am having an issue with The Best Notary as well, they sent me the following as a response to me regarding late payment not received for and Will and Power of Attorney signing I did for them, they also sent 2 witness, wondering if they paid them, I should inquire I have their contact information. See their response to me regarding my inquiry and my replay:

Hi Erica,

Thank you for your patience while we work through outstanding payments. I wanted to provide a quick update regarding your balance.

The original amount owed is $100.00. Due to current financial constraints and some staffing limitations, we’re unable to release the full amount immediately. To move forward and include an inconvenience fee for the delay, we’d like to propose the following payment plan:

• $60 every 2 weeks

• Starting 03/27

• Total of 2 payments

• New total amount: $120.00

We truly appreciate your patience and professionalism as we work through this.

Please let us know if this works for you. Thank you again for your understanding.

Regards,

Accounting Team

Hi Good day,

Thank you for your message. However, I must respectfully decline the proposed payment plan.

The $100.00 owed is for work already completed, and payment is now overdue. While I appreciate the offer of an additional $20 for the inconvenience, I require full payment of the original $100.00 immediately, not spread over a month.

Your internal financial constraints and staffing limitations are not my responsibility as a contractor/employee who has fulfilled their obligations.

I expect payment of the full $100 by 3-13-26 or sooner. Please confirm you can meet this deadline.

If immediate payment cannot be arranged, please let me know what date I can expect the full amount, as I may need to explore other options to resolve this matter.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this.

Best regards,

Erica South

Lesson learned, I will be adding them to “the list”.

Financial constraints and staffing limitations?? When they got paid by title/escrow/lender, they got paid in full, INCLUDING what they owed you. They used YOUR money to service their cash flow needs and left you hanging until they can work things out.

Un-huh, they owe you NOW and should pay in full, NOW. If they don’t have the money (after apparently cutting staff to save $$), that’s their problem. I’m guessing they don’t have a line of credit to draw on when things are slow. Looks like they are not the “best” notary.

@Bobby-CA, Right, we shall see how this plays out. Completely unprofessional, and the audacity to conduct business this way! There is always the threat of ducting payment if signings have errors from these title companies.

I had another company just scheduled payment for a signing I did for them in November 2025, I had to send them a reminded 3x’s, they keep asking me to do jobs for them and haven’t paid me. I need to implement a late fee, this is unacceptable and rediculous to say the least!

Mona I thought that we had already settled your payment and that was totally my bad. I was referring to Katie above who is fully paid now. I connected with our accounting team and as it turns out we hadn’t received your ACH details. We will take care of the $65 payment once you connect with us on Bill or provide us with your bank details. As far as the real time tracking goes, we use it because it means our staff doesn’t have to rely on calling notaries when we have multiple signings with a notary and two witnesses across multiple states. With that app we are leveraging location data to also notice when something might be amiss and communicate delays to our signers proactively just like Uber/Lyft/Doordash. We always talk to every notary about this before assigning an order to them and all 2K+ notaries we have been working with have agreed to using this app going back to 2021 when we started. Most of our notaries appreciate it because keeps all of us on the same page in real time and even allows us to intervene if they experience a problem with their car as we can tell they’re not moving. In the future we will be able to assign jobs based on location without having to call or text. Stay tuned. If the order was removed from Onfleet its because we scrub data after the appointment has been completed successfully. We might have had some late payments [growing pains] but we’re definitely not crooks! We do our best to communicate with our notaries when delays are inevitable but admittedly could have done a better job of it.

Hi Chris,

We truly value the relationship we have built with notaries like you over the years. Since 2022 alone, we have sent and paid you for more than $15,000 in assignments, often at premium rates when we were working hard to recruit experienced RON notaries for estate planning signings. Our goal has always been to treat great notaries as long term partners, not just vendors.

Building an innovative service for estate planning attorneys across the United States has meant navigating growth, experimentation, and at times difficult cash flow periods. Attorneys are EXTREMELY risk averse and it takes them years to change and update their systems. Like many bootstrapped, small businesses, we have made decisions along the way that we later wished we had handled differently. At times we grew faster than our systems could support, prioritizing client tools and infrastructure before investing in stronger accounting workflows.

Even so, our commitment remains the same. Over the past 16 years we have ultimately paid every single notary we have worked with, and we will continue to honor that commitment. We understand that trust is earned through consistent action, and we are working hard to rebuild confidence wherever it has been strained.

Our company also operates very differently from the typical signing services that focus on title closings. We work exclusively with estate planning attorneys as a fully managed back office, supporting families through trust and will signings that require patience, empathy, professionalism and painstaking attention to detail. Crossouts are not an option which is why we always prefill all dates and notary details. We even built an AI powered checklist generation tool to help reduce mistakes and help our internal team members work more efficiently. Notaries who stay with us long term benefit from this specialized focus and continue to receive premium opportunities as our unique business model blossoms and estate planning attorneys swing to the way of title/escrow companies who conduct most closings remotely.

I promise you that we will settle your balance and as our funding round looms closer, who knows, you might even be interested in converting what we owe you into equity as our iOS app is close to being finalized. Thank you for the years of great service and my apologies again that I didn’t proactively reach out to you to communicate the delays in our payment arrangement.

Hi Erica,

Thank you for your message and for clearly sharing your expectations.

First, I want to acknowledge that you completed the assignment and that payment is owed. We understand that contractors should not have to follow up repeatedly for payment on work already performed, and I appreciate you raising the issue directly.

While we cannot commit to a specific payment date at this moment, I do want to assure you that we will communicate with you courteously and transparently as we work to resolve the balance. Our goal is to address outstanding payments responsibly while continuing to stabilize operations during a slower period.

For context, our company operates quite differently from most signing services that focus on title closings. We primarily support estate planning attorneys with trust and will signings that often require more time, patience, and professionalism from the notaries involved. Because of that, we try to build longer term relationships with notaries rather than one off transactions.

When notaries are open to longer or more flexible payment timelines during lean periods, we are often able to compensate with higher per signing rates to reflect that flexibility and the specialized nature of the work.

Regardless, we will continue communicating with you respectfully as we work toward resolving the balance.

Thank you again for completing the assignment and our accounting team will be in touch to resolve the issue. My sincerely apologies that things didn’t go as smoothly as we had hoped when it comes to settling your payment.

To follow up on my previous post, I would like to acknowledge that the payment due to me has now been received. While it took more than half the year, the balance has finally been settled. Thank you.*****

Credit given where credit is due. At least they kept their word. Glad you got paid and glad they were able to pay you.
