Counter Offers and Delayed Assignments

I had countered an offer from First Am earlier today. After, I called the escrow office and had to leave a voicemail asking them to drop me from consideration for the signing as I was not going to be able to accept it any longer. I never heard anymore about it until 4 hours later they assigned the order to me without a phone call or text to see if I was still available for the signing. I have sent an email and sent a message back through their portal with no response at this point. Has anybody else had something like this happen?

@takenotenotaryservices In a word . . . Yes.

Plan of Action to Take:

  • Login to the webportal to review the Signing Order [SO].
  • Search the SO for the name, email, & phone number of the Escrow Officer [EO] for this File
  • Call the EO to speak directly (or leave a VoiceMail [VM] message) identifying why you’re returning the SO & include the SO #
  • Simultaneously send a direct email message identifying why you’re returning the SO & include the SO #
  • Monitor your email & VMs for the Confirmation that the SO has been removed from your queue

I have followed those steps as well. I am calling the escrow officer again this morning after they open. If you’re going to assign an order 4 hours after it was sent out, it would be a good idea to see if the notary is still avaliable, especially at the end of the month.

I agree, keep trying to reach someone directly.

I had emailed the escrow officer last night after it was assigned to me. She emailed me back this morning and said that the escrow doesn’t assign the orders. She said JOT auto assigned and that they would have to change it. The text I received assigning the order to me said to message back through the platform if I needed to cancel or forfeit the ordrer. I did that, but the option to send the message to JOT is no longer available apparently. It is not on this order and I checked an order I did for them a couple of days ago and it is not an option on that order either. The escrow officer sent a message through the platform that included JOT, saying that I had already stated I could not sign the client, to reassign asap. The signing is not today so they have time to assign somebody else, but all this could have been avoided. I also called JOT and left them a message as well and also asked about the option to message them directly through the platform.

I’ve noticed dropping an order in JOT seems to be impossible but I’ve never had much problem using the hello@ email address.

They finally got it removed. You can click on the three dots at the top of the page and forfeit the signing, but I didn’t want to do that in case that would affect my rating.

I’ve had that happen, where I am bidding on 2 jobs at the same time (or close enough where I can’t do both). Just like with them finding a notary, it is first come first serve. It has happened to me a few times. I think you are doing everything you can and they can’t expect anything more. With that said, I have no idea if it impacts any ratings or anything

That is a sound logic because if you forfeit signings from First American, it does impact your rating with them.
