Hi,
I have been doing traditional notary work for awhile now. It’s been going great. I still have a main job and do this on the side when I have capacity. Eventually, I would like to step back from the corporate world and transition into this more but need some advise on several points:
- I thought that doing Remote Online Notary (RON) would be another method that I could generate additional work/income so started doing some research. I live in Washington state, so from what I understood, I needed to get an endorsement to my traditional notary license. I completed a form with the state and sent it in with the intention of using Notarize/Proof as the RON platform. After I mailed out the form, I realized that RON and electronic notary (E-Notary) are actually two separate things. After searching the forums here it appears that most posts are older and there isn’t much/recent information on either RON or E-notary. The form I actually completed with the state was a request for E-notary, so now I am a little confused on how to get the RON endorsement.
- How does one get e-notary work? Seems like having a nice tablet and doing in person but electronic notary would be more popular than it is. Our traditional world is one heavily reliant on paper. Just seems like a natural progression in today’s world to me, yet I didn’t even know it existed until recently and I have been a notary a long time.
- What about RON? As mentioned, I did search the forums, but have found the whole process super confusing. I signed up for Notarize.com (aka Proof) and did all the testing, and they are waiting for me to get an electronic notary endorsement and RON endorsement, apparently that form I sent in to the state is for e-notary, so now still trying to figure out how to even apply for RON endorsement. I know each state is different.
- And finally, what other means to work/income is there out there? If I ever want to transition, I will need more income to make it happen. You don’t know what you don’t know, so I’m trying to see if anyone can give a list of additional sources of work that supplement/compliment this. I have on occasion got through a notary platform a request to go take pictures of a property which I have actually done once. It wasn’t bad, but I get the impression you are walking into a lot of sketchy foreclosure situations. But I’m open to anything.
Thanks for your time.
