I am having trouble picking a printer. I am a new notary and plan on doing loan signings as well as GNW. At the end of June this will be my full time job. The school I work for is having cut backs and after 20 years in Admin, I am shooting for a life work balance and a challenge. Just a little info to share how much time I plan to devote to Notary work. There are so many on the market it gets a little overwhelming. Would love to hear your thoughts. Also if a portable scanner is a good idea or if having just a printer/scanner combo at home is enough.
Thanks for any advice, love how helpful the post I have read are.

Brother makes a HL-L 5200DW dual tray printer that has served me flawlessly for nearly four years. You can buy toner cartridges from Sun Data Supply for about a third of what Brother charges and they work just fine. If I was teaching notary students, this is what I’d recommend they buy, but, I’m sure there are competing brands that other use that will be recommended in this space.
Incidentally, if it makes any difference, I’ve put through about 600,000 pages in those four years. Replaced the drum about six times and the fuser once, all for less than $600 total. I’ve had only two serious jams and it took about 20 minutes each time to resolve (it was the fault of the crummy paper I was using). Other than keeping it clean, I’ve done virtually no other maintenance on this machine. I can’t remember why I chose the Brother over other machines but I’m very glad I did.

Thank for the tip Bobby, I appreciate it.
I’m currently looking into two on Marketplace: Lexmark MS521dn and Canon CLASS MF 455 dw. I’ve done a ton of research on both as well as other models available in my local area. I’m not ready to invest in the full cost of an efficient laser printer. A couple years ago, I spent a pretty penny on an inkjet without realizing that I needed laser. If either work as advertised, it will be an amazing deal.
I wore out several plain paper faxes in the 2000’s and, since then, half a dozen Brother printers; my current one is an MFC L-5900DW.
