Nonpayment Warning: CRESClosers (North Carolina) 🚨

I wanted to share my recent experience so other notaries can stay aware.

I completed a signing for CRESClosers on April 15th and was told payment had been mailed. After more than five months, multiple follow-ups by email and phone, and repeated requests to have the check reissued, I’ve still received no payment ($95 owed).

I’ve since filed a general consumer complaint with the North Carolina Department of Justice and a Notary Complaint with the NC Secretary of State, since the company is based in North Carolina.

If you’ve also completed work for CRESClosers, I recommend documenting all correspondence and confirming payment timelines before accepting new assignments.

It’s unfortunate to have to post this, but I hope it helps protect others from going unpaid for their work.

Has anyone else had similar experiences with this company recently?

@bakersigningservices Sorry to read about your negative experience with that business entity.

Glad to see you’re continuing to pursue the remuneration you’re due for the professional services you’ve successfully provided.

Here is a separate thread on this same business entity from 18 days ago that may be helpful.

NOTE: Remember to Research the Treasure Trove of data found within the Notary Cafe database on business entities and other information PRIOR TO providing professional services.

Most members express that they find it difficult/NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE to locate the Search Function in order to access the wealth of information available within the database that has been generously contributed by your sagacious fellow business owners over the years . . .

To be helpful, I’ve inserted an image for you & others [see below] to help members locate it to unlock the wisdom & knowledge of other members on the forums.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share this and for pointing me toward the additional thread I really appreciate it. I’ll definitely review that post and make use of the search feature on Notary Café going forward.

It’s unfortunate to see that others have had similar experiences with this company, but I’m glad there’s such a supportive community here helping each other stay informed.

:tada: Thank You :tada: for returning to the Notary Cafe forum in follow-up!:balloon:

Also, please return if/when you make additional progress on collection of the remuneration due to you.

Ugh…I just did a signing for them. First one. Last one I guess. I’ll update if they pay on time.

I really hope your payment goes smoothly, please let us know if it does.

I’ve already filed complaints with the NC DOJ and Secretary of State, so hopefully that pushes some movement.

Definitely hang on to your messages and confirmation emails just in case.

@bakersigningservices :person_with_crown: Excellent insight :person_with_crown: you’ve provided to @barbarablack606 (reference the excerpt above).

UPDATE - I wanted to provide an update regarding my previous post about nonpayment from CRESClosers. After continued communication and assistance from the NC Secretary of State and Consumer Protection Division, the matter has been resolved.

The company reissued payment for the signing, minus a $17.50 reduction related to a disputed stop-payment fee. While I still believe full payment should have been issued, I chose to accept the reduced amount in order to bring the matter to a close and avoid further time and effort spent pursuing it.

I’m glad to have this behind me and appreciate the support and advice from everyone who reached out during the process.

@bakersigningservices :balloon: Thank You :balloon: for returning to the Notary Cafe forum with the final payment status update.

It truly sounds as if you made the best business decision (considering the circumstances). :dizzy:
